When & Wear x Cloth & Cord: Perfect Pairings

When & Wear x Cloth & Cord: Perfect Pairings
When & Wear x Cloth & Cord | African Necklaces
In this week’s edition of the When & Wear blog, we’re giving you a behind the scenes view of our latest collaboration with our friends over at Cloth & Cord!
Founded in 2014, Cloth & Cord sells wearable art in the form of African Ankara jewelry & accessories that are truly one-of-a-kind, and has been featured in publications such as Essence Magazine, Houstonia Magazine, and the Houston Life daily talk show on KPRC-2.
Owner and Head Designer, Ellana Turner grew up in New Orleans, Louisiana where she was inspired by the art, music, culture and vibrant colors of the city. She has always had a love for beautiful abstract art and that love is now captured through the Cloth & Cord brand born out of a love for unique prints, quality craftsmanship and an affinity for unusual statement pieces.
Cloth & Cord reached out and shared with us a vision of pairing their unique statement jewelry with our beautiful and versatile workwear apparel, to teach customers how to style looks for whenever, wherever. And of course, we said yes because we know our girls want to wear bold accessories that express your personality and highlight your culture whether you’re attending a summer mixer, wedding, or going into the office.
As you’ll see in this blog post, most of the jewelry and apparel combinations are conservative enough for the office, but will make you stand out in any crowd! We’ve taken on the task to expertly combine C&C and W&W pieces together, so check out our pics below. ;)

Wanting to dress more conservatively, but still need that “pop” of color to take your dress to the next level? Our navy-colored Like a Boss dress is gorgeous on its own, but worn in conjunction with Cloth & Cord’s Drop Bib necklace makes it a masterpiece! The fun, bright, multi-color pattern and design of the necklace against the elegant simplicity of the single-color dress is a perfectly balanced combination.

The best part? It’ll look great at the office, in an investor meeting, or happy hour!

Wearing a neutral base such as our Ready-to-Go sweater dress helps create the perfect backdrop to showcase a colorful multi-strand, multi-patterned African bib necklace, like the London Bib necklace or Cloth & Cord's Double Loop Brown Kente earrings. When dressing for work, we recommend sticking to one statement piece so as not to take the focus away from what you're saying.

When & Wear x Cloth & Cord-Plunging Neckline

Have a When & Wear outfit with a low or plunging neckline, like our That’s a Wrap dress?  Say no more!

While low necklines call attention for obvious reasons (hello cleavage!), you still have all that real estate to show off! One way to maximize the space is with chunky jewelry and lots of it! Chunky jewelry is your best friend, filling up space at the neckline and commanding attention to the area, especially with the bright, bold colors in the necklace, this combo is sure to turn heads for all the right reasons.

Sun’s out, shoulders out! Off-the-shoulder dresses are an indication that Spring is here, and we can’t get enough of them! Between our Paint the Town Black jumpsuit or the Compliment the Deal dress, you’ll look like you’re ready for work or play. They’re professional enough for the boardroom, and fun enough for dinner & drinks with the girls. Toss in one of Cloth & Cords Bib necklaces and earrings, and you have a total outfit that’s fun, polished, and versatile to take you absolutely anywhere the day (or night!) chooses to take you!

What’s better than a velvet blazer? A velvet blazer with a Cloth & Cord necklace, of course! Dress to impress with our Velvet Crush blazer, and accessorize to mesmerize with a bib or choker necklace to complete the look. You’ll be the talk of whatever room you’ll be in, while leaving a lasting impression and getting asked where you got the items!
